The entire QsoNet system was moved to the new Dallas server at 1800 Z, today December 22, 2008. Within 2 to 3 hours, we notice that most users have responded to the updated DNS address.

This new server is a newer, more powerful quad core machine with RAID hard drives for greater reliability. It is well connected to major worldwide internet backbones. We have taken extreme security measures to harden this system against intrusion by hackers. We hope Qsonet users will have smoother voice streams and less downtime than the previous server.

Many thanks to our Linux guru, Clayton, for working all weekend to prepare this server.

After 9 days of operation we are very VERY happy with this new server. I highly recommend SoftLayer.com which we found thanks to a recommendation from Leo Laporte.

With our previous provider, we were getting occasional network hiccups that were disconnecting our CW practice stations about once every 8 to 12 hours. Also, we were getting hard drive seek errors that were crashing the entire server. With SoftLayer, we have now logged more than 300 hours of continuous unattended streaming without once single disconnection.

The new RAID configuration is providing continuous automatic backup. Also, we are doing off-site backups daily. I hope this new system will run for many years without even one minute of interruption.
