We have just completed the keyer engine capable of keying CW by connecting your paddle or bug to the serial port. This is a beta test version (Engine Demonstration) available for your testing and comments. Please post all comments in here. Do not use email or telephone.

The wiring diagram is in the help file and manual.
I am looking forward to hearing your test results.

Wow... downloaded the manual and the program... looks really neat Doug.

Now I just need to get plugged in. My straight key and bencher paddles both have a 1/4" stereo plug and I really don't want to redo those so will try to find adapters, etc.

I know that serial to USB cords are available. But I would need a 1/4" to some type of serial to go to the other cord (serial to USB).

And maybe using two cords would cause problems. Well, I'll eventually get it done. I'm excited to try this, but I'm sure I won't be the first one. I'll listen in the days ahead for others that are making it work.

thanks..

Hi Rich. I snipped about 8 inches off an old serial wire, then I soldered 1/4 inch stereo plug onto the cut end. The Tip of the 1/4" jack is the dit side for most rigs. I checked everything with an ohm meter before plugging it in. It worked first time Smile

ok Doug... thanks for the info... I'll have to give it a try... right now my good laptop is back at the manufacture with some static problems in the audio which was most noticeable on CW with the CQ100 program.

At the moment I'm using my OLD windows 98 machine so will have to wait until the laptop gets back. I'll probably look into an external USB soundcard.

From the little I know about soundcards, I have always heard that the built in soundcard in laptops is usually not the greatest. I have heard some talk about the Amigo sound card.

My laptop was new in October and had XP but if they replace the board, it may come back with Vista.

So, I'll just have to wait and see.

Doug,
Since most computers today don't have a serial port, could this same configuration be wired to a PS/2 plug and plugged into a PS/2 port on the computer or possibly a DB-25 plug and plugged into an un-used printer port on the computer, since most keyboards and printers, now days, are USB and usually either the PS/2 plugs for a mouse or keyboard or the DB-25 port for a printer are not used for anything else.

This would eliminate the need to purchase the serial to USB converter and software.
